Vehicle Description When auto enthusiasts discuss muscle cars, it's a fairly safe bet that two General Motors cars will be mentioned--the Pontiac GTO and the Chevrolet Chevelle SS.
Both cars were built on the GM A-body platform and while the GTO is often credited with starting the muscle car era, the Chevelle deserves credit for being arguably the most popular muscle car.
From the 1964 through 1972 model years, the Chevelle was available in a variety of configurations ranging from meek four-door sedans with six-cylinder engines to sporty two-door convertibles with the largest powerplant offered by Chevrolet between the frame rails and everything in between.
At the top of that list was the big block Super Sport convertible.
This 1971 Chevelle Super Sport convertible is a prime example of a highly-sought after muscle car.
The Sunflower Yellow paint is contrasted by a black vinyl bucket seat interior and powered black convertible top.
Power comes from a non-matching number but date-code correct 402 cubic inch big block engine rated at 300 horsepower backed by a four-speed transmission.
Factory options include power steering, power brakes and air conditioning, with A/C being a rare option for convertibles of this period.
A full complement of factory gauges monitor the engine and electrical systems.
The car was acquired by the present owner in October 2011 and was restored at some time prior to his purchase.
Since that time the car has been driven recreationally and regularly participates in local parades.
During his ownership the car has been stored in a humidity-controlled environment.
Documents obtained at purchase indicate previous ownership in Arkansas and Georgia.
According to statutes governing the operation of licensed motor vehicle dealers in the state of Missouri, this car is sold mileage exempt due to age.
